NC State Extension

Technology to Do List for New Specialists

The following tasks should be completed within your first week or two of employment at NC State to make sure you are in the Cooperative Extension information flow:

  1. Learn your Unity ID and password. Your Unity ID is your passport into most of the NC State and Cooperative Extension applications.
  2. Change your unity password and update your remote identification questions.
  3. Request an e-mail alias address.
    1. Actual NC State e-mail addresses are created as unityid@ncsu.edu
    2. Easier to remember NC State e-mail alias addresses can be requested. At NC State, most people use firstname_lastname@ncsu.edu
  4. Verify and update your contact information in the Extension Employee Database including your desired email address,  Responsibility Areas, and Update Your Image in the NCCE Directory.
    1. The employee database includes all N.C. Cooperative Extension employees and affiliates
    2. Our extension websites look to the extension employee database to automatically display contact information in the NCCE Directory and on extension portal Staff pages like this one: http://strawberries.ces.ncsu.edu/people/
    3. This database is also used as an authentication source to give you access to NCCE applications such as the NCCE One-Stop Shop Reporting System and NCCE Intranet.
  5. Update your contact information in the NC State Directory
  6. Combine your unityID@ncsu.edu and your full_name@ncsu.edu accounts in the MajorDomo list server (Instructions). Doing this allows you to email to NCSU mailing lists from either of your NC State email addresses.
  7. eXtension is an Internet-based collaborative environment where Land Grant University content providers exchange objective, research-based knowledge to solve real challenges in real time. Read more about eXtension at http://extension.org
  8. Create an eXtension account at https://people.extension.org/ and update your eXtension profile.
